Heavy snow conditions and slippery roads in Detroit are being blamed for a series of chain-reaction type accidents that caused the lives of two people Thursday morning. It was reported that the hazardous conditions left over 24 people injured as well. On a mile-long stretch of Interstate 75 the chain-reaction type series of accidents involving over 24 vehicles, including tractor trailers took place. Images of the accident show an array of vehicles with smashed front and back ends, missing bumpers, side mirrors and bent bodies and dazed, upset or confused people besides them. There was car parts scattered through-out the highway. Large 18-wheelers lay overturned, and some jack-knifed in between other vehicles. Emergency vehicles were spread throughout the area attending the injured victims. According to authorities two people died in the massive accident, both were traveling in the same vehicle. And over two dozen people were injured, including children. They were transported to the hospital. While authorities investigate the closed out interstate, heavy gray clouds linger over Detroit and the scene of the accident. "We're not sure of the cause," Michigan State Police Lt. Michael Shaw told The Associated Press. "Some witnesses said there were white-out conditions." Emergency personnel and volunteers worked to extricate trapped victims. They will have to seek a car accident lawyer There were also a large amount of undamaged vehicles that were trapped at the scene. Authorities did not say how long it would take before the interstate reopened. It may take them hours regarding the fact that there were large amount of vehicles involved and that the weather continues to be intense. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration suggests that when people drive in inclement weather precaution is important. Having a properly maintained vehicle is the first step. It can make a great difference when involved in an accident or to prevent one. The best way to have a properly maintained vehicle is to follow the manufacturer’s maintenance manual; if you cannot do that, have a mechanic do the maintenance checkup for you. When you follow those steps your car can be more responsive in an emergency situation. And for you as a driver, the best thing to do is to always wear a sea belt and follow the rules of the road.
