Tropical gardens are known for their vibrant colors and big flowers. It’s understandable why a gardener looking for a standout flower garden might be tempted to plant tropical flowers, especially if they live in a warm climate that will support topical plants. Unfortunately, unless you are willing to do a lot of work, especially a lot of watering, a tropical garden might be more demanding that you really want. Tropical plants love humidity and require a lot of moisture. If you live in a very dry climate, like the Southwest, you will need to constantly water your tropical garden to make sure the plants don’t dehydrate. You will need to consider if using all the water is truly worth showing off a tropical garden, especially if your area is experiencing a drought, as is common in very dry parts of the country. An alternative to a tropical garden is a Mediterranean garden. Mediterranean flowers tend to be very hardy and require much less water than tropical plants. They may not be as lush and vibrant as tropical flowers, but they are still beautiful in their own way. Most importantly, they’ll be much easier to care for and will help you use water responsibly in your region. For more information about planting and growing flower bulbs and plants.
