The methods to fix start menu search are as follows, ? By customizing start menu properties: this is one of the method by which you can fix your problem. ? Steps: ? Right click on the start icon having windows logo on it. ? Click to properties and then to customize. ? Scroll down near the bottom and look for “search other files and libraries”. ? Click on radio button of “search with public folders”. ? Press ok. ? Press apply and ok in another window. ? By rebuilding the index: it takes long time to proceed, so have patience before getting into this. ? Steps: ? Click start button having windows logo on it. ? Click to control panel. ? In control panel window, click to system and maintenance. ? Click on indexing options provided there. ? Click on advanced and then to index setting tab. ? Click on rebuild to proceed further. ? Provide confirmation or administrator password if you are asked for it. ? By adding file type to the index: this is normally used when a particular file type doesn’t comes in search. ? Steps: ? Click start button having windows logo on it. ? Click to control panel. ? In control panel window, click to system and maintenance. ? Click on indexing options provided there. ? Click on advanced and provide administrative password or confirmation if asked. ? Click on file types tab. ? In the text box enter the file type, and then click to add new extension. ? Click on index properties only or index properties and file contents. ? Then click ok to save changes. ? By restarting the windows search services: ? steps: ? Click start button having windows logo on it. ? Click to control panel. ? In control panel window, click to system and maintenance. ? Click to administrative tools. ? Double click services and provide confirmation password if asked. ? Double click windows search in services dialog box under name. ? Click stop in windows search properties dialog box and then click start. ? Click ok to save the changes. ? By deleting selected registry key: It’s a manual procedure by which you can delete selected registry key which is creating trouble. ? Press windows + R keys to launch run dialog box. ? Type regedit and then hit enter. ? Find the following registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderTypes\ {ef87b4cb-f2ce-4785-8658-4ca6c63e38c6} ?
