It is one thing to make a resolution to become fit and healthy; it's another to keep it. If one of your goals for this year is to lose weight and/or tone your body through fat burning workouts, a crucial factor in achieving success in your endeavor is motivation - that is, your ability to stay on track and keep going. That said, here are some tips that can help you keep yourself motivated even after you've achieved your fitness goals.

Set both short-term and long-term goals. Focusing on a goal is a good way to stay on track with whatever endeavor you started. However, in this case it is better that you make a list of short-term goals alongside long-term ones. If you only have long-term goals, there's a chance that you will find yourself frustrated because reaching them will seem to take forever. This can result to you quitting before you achieve your objective. Short-term goals are easier to reach, so if you mix these in with long-term ones, it's more likely that you will be able to follow your fitness program until your ultimate objective is realized.

Make sure that the exercises you engage in are intense. There are two ways by which intense workouts can help you stay motivated. First, these are challenging, so you won't get bored with your routine and lose steam before you reach your goal. And second, the more intense your workouts are, the more endorphins are released in your body. These are hormones responsible for that feeling of well-being that comes after you're done with your workout routine. This feeling is a powerful motivator that can help you stay on track.

Review your reasons for engaging in rigorous exercise. People have varying reasons for working out. Some do it primarily out of the desire to look good; others, to become healthier. Whatever your reasons are, it's important that you always, always keep them in mind. If you lose sight of why you're doing something, chances are you're going to quit without finishing what you have started.

Choose a program that fits your lifestyle and hence are likely to commit to and do regularly. Even if you follow the tips mentioned above, you will find yourself quitting in no time if you overlook this last point. For instance: if you have a nine-to-five job and you have a dozen other things to take care of during your free time, a workout regimen that requires you to go to the gym or that takes a long time to perform should not be an option. Even if you are motivated, it's still very probable that you'll quit because of lack of time.
