Homeopathy is a prominent system of medicine that has gained pervasive acceptance in today’s world. The system first originated in the late 18th century and has picked up both in terms of demand and effectiveness to treat diseases in humans. After originating in Greece, the technique of administering medication on the basis of homeopathic principles has spread to most developed and third world countries. The system of homeopathy has faced trenchant criticism especially from developed countries of today’s world, mostly because of its presumed ineffectiveness in treating pernicious diseases. Although a lot has been talked about the effectiveness and success of homeopathic remedies, it remains to be amongst the most popular health remedies in the current age. The system of homeopathy was developed for the first time by Samuel Hahnemann. Based on the doctrine propounded by him, the process of homeopathy involves the principle by which substances that lead to disease causing symptoms in healthy people can be used to cure symptoms in afflicted people. According to the practice adopted by Hahnemann, large doses of substances that lead to diseases in humans can be used, by means of intensely diluting, to trounce the very same symptoms that indicate the onset of a disease. Referring to the so called ‘absurd’ method of disease treatment, scientific communities across the world have termed the method of homeopathy as insignificant and farfetched. After comprehending Samuel’s theory, some even termed the method of homeopathy as being highly implausible. The promoters of homeopathy have a different take on this. There is no doubt that many people have benefited from this system of medicine- but to what extent is the question. Homeopathy has proved highly efficient in treating insignificantly recurring diseases like the common cold, coughs and headaches. Though homeopathic scientists are trying to extend the application of homeopathy to more complicated disease platforms, a tangible breakthrough hasn’t yet surfaced. A lot of research is going into making homeopathy more acceptable in today’s world. In India, the system of homeopathy is very common if not widespread. Many students have taken to studying the systems and principles of homeopathy, consequently providing the technique the impetus it needs to grow and develop further. It is the onus on the part of the government to recognise the positive implications of this system of medicine if the technique of homeopathy were to supplant existing therapies. Moving to the availability of homeopathic medicines, they are not easily available as is the case with allopathic medicines.
