It is a well-known fact that computer parts need to be packed separately during a move to make sure that they don’t bump into each other and get damaged in transit. Most homeowners face the problem of reassembling a computer after their move as they can’t figure out how to do it themselves. However, this is not a problem at all: - Set up your desk and chair after ensuring that the desk is at the right height and is placed in the exact spot you want it to be. Once the computer is placed on it, the desk will be tough to move. Make sure the desk is placed next to a power outlet.
- Take out all the computer parts from the box like the CPU, monitor with cables, keyboard, mouse, power cable and power bar and lay them in front of you. In case you need extra light, keep a flashlight handy.
- Put the monitor, keyboard and mouse on top of the desk and the CPU under the desk. Check where the DVD driver is, the USB inputs, and any other extra input places that you might need access to. However, some CPU models can also be placed on top of the desk beside the monitor.
- It is advisable to label all cords and plug-in slots on the CPU before packing. However, some CPUs come with color-coded input slots that match the color of the cords that make your task easier.
- Take the cable attached to the monitor and plug it in the corresponding slot in the back of the CPU. The monitor plug will have two small screws at either end of its rectangular shape; there will be only one place in the back of the CPU where this plug shape will fit. The cords for the mouse and keyboard should be dropped behind the desk and the cables for each should be plugged into corresponding slots. Newer machines will have color coded cables, and older ones have symbols beside input slots.
- Take the power cord, which is the thickest one with two three-prong plugs - one on either end and plug one end into the monitor and the other into the surge-protected power bar, which you can connect to a power outlet.
- Speakers need to be plugged into the CPU. Search for the symbols beside input slots, which usually resemble a microphone and audio symbol. Check to see if the speakers have been installed properly by switching on the computer and ensuring that it is detecting the speaker.
