Fragrances are made up of thousands of different ingredients, the most common of which are rose and jasmine. It is important to remember that a perfume is also made up of three different notes; the top, heart and base note. The names of these notes are fairly self explanatory. The top note is the first and initial smell that you notice, and as it consists of small and light molecules it is quick to evaporate. Heart notes form the main basis of the scent and develop after the top notes disperse. Finally, base notes are the last to develop and provide the depth of the perfume. Base notes take around 30 minutes to fully mature, and help to create a more lasting scent. Generally speaking, each person tends to be inclined towards a particular category and will prefer scents of a particular nature.
