For younger children, waking up to Christmas stockings laden with gifts that Santa has delivered is a great delight. Here are some ways for you to decorate and make personalized Xmas stockings for your little ones. Rickrack Streamer Stockings Line the mantel - or your child's bed - with colorful handmade Xmas stockings embellished with rickrack accents. To make these embellished stockings, start with icicle-white and candy red felt, fabric stiffener, fabric glue and rickrack. Download a stocking template from online clipart sites and print it out. Trace the template on the felt, cutting out two faces for each stocking you wish to make. Use fabric glue or sew the two sides of the stocking cutouts together. Glue the rickrack in any pattern you wish and run a straight stitch along it to hold it in place. Use a ruler to maintain a straight line and sew with clear thread. Rickrack in metallic shades and pastel holiday colors can make very attractive Christmas stockings. Make holly leaves with fabric stiffener; for berries, roll up pieces of trim and secure the ends with glue. Other embellishments you can make for these simple and stylish Xmas stockings are rickrack flowers. Make these flowers by rolling rickrack, adding small dots of hot glue along the way. Scatter the blossoms or cluster them in a cuff. Snowflake Prints Add a festive touch to plain red stockings by rolling a light coat of fabric paint onto snowflakes cut out of foam. Press the snowflake on to the stocking. Repeat this process with snowflakes in different shapes and fabric paint colors. Use gold or silver fabric paint for sparkly seasonal style. Layer the snowflakes with different holiday motifs to create Christmas stockings that are sure to make your child feel special. Holiday Memories Decorate stockings with old holiday photos for a personalized mantel decoration. Choose enjoyable holiday memories that your child will love to display. Use a heavy coat of gel medium to completely cover your image. Press it onto a piece of fabric and let it dry overnight. After your image is completely dry, use a spray bottle to wet the top of the paper. Rub the surface with your fingers the paper starts to come off to reveal your photo. Continue until all the paper is removed and the image is completely visible. Add one more coat of gel medium to protect and seal your image. Inspired by past traditions and to be enjoyed for many years to come, these stocking ideas are festive and fun!
