Warming Up To Cork Flooring

Home Improvement
It’s freezing outside and the snow is falling heavily. The weather doesn’t look like its going to let up for a very long time. You bundle yourself up in winter clothing before you step out. You walk around the house in warm clothes and heavy socks as well. There are a lot of places where the weather is cold for a large part of the year. Keeping your home warm means the heating has to be turned up and kept that way right round the clock and a lot of us fight a losing battle when trying to maintain the temperature at an even level through every room in our home.

However, every home owner must know that making a few simple alterations within the home can go a long way to reducing those inflated power bills. An interesting fact about cork flooring is that it is an excellent insulator. This property in itself makes it a wise investment as it can help with reducing electricity consumption in your home. It is composed of millions of 14-sided cells that are naturally sealed with Suberin, making it a natural insulator that has acoustic properties as well.

Not only does cork flooring prevent heat loss within rooms but the body heat that you lose through walking around in bare or stocking feet is also reduced. It maintains a median temperature that is comfortable and neither too hot nor cold. It also has anti-static properties that help in eliminating shocks. The biggest proof of the insulating properties of cork is the bare-foot test. Vinyl, ceramic and hardwood floors can be very cold to the touch and are very uncomfortable. Less heat loss from your body means more warmth for you.

Cork does not need sub-floor heating material like other floors do. Cork flooring is very durable and with regular care and maintenance it can last a lifetime. It is not as inexpensive as laminate but its benefits outweigh the extra cost of the material. It is a very resilient material and heavy furniture does not create very deep indentation on it. This flooring material has been used in public buildings such as banks, court houses, libraries and churches with a high degree of satisfaction. All these places see a lot of traffic and are high-use areas.

The multi-sided cell-structure of cork is what is responsible for its durability. These thickly packed, honeycomb-like cells help shock absorption and lend it “bounce”. Even if a certain amount of denting does take place on cork flooring, it regains its shape very quickly. This is called the “memory” of cork. It is stain-resistant, crack and peel resistant. Some flooring companies also coat it with a final varnish that makes it even more attractive and durable. Any material as tough and versatile as this is a definite value-add to your home. The less you have to maintain something that looks good, the happier you are about it.

Cork Flooring is an ideal option for your home. If you want a floor that is well-laid and durable, call Icorkfloor and check out their extensive range of high quality Cork Flooring .
