Encrypted File System recovery (EFS) and Encrypted NTFS recovery may be needed if a hard drive crash happens or data becomes corrupted due to a virus, software and hard drive changes, BIOS changes or any other hardware changes occur. What can you do then to perform a BitLocker recovery and be able to get back into your system? If any of the above threats, or any other, happen then BitLocker will go into recovery mode. Windows will prompt the user for a recovery keys, or password. From there you would need to go into the active directory and enter the recovery key in the prompt. After that you would log into Windows and suspend BitLocker protection mode. Restart your computer and go directly into the BIOS settings to make sure it is set to start with your hard drive. Then exit allowing Windows to start. Go in and reactivate BitLocker mode. Shutting down and restarting will make sure it has taken affect. Other programs are available for EFS recovery and NTFS recovery but with Windows 7 BitLocker recovery is the best to use. Always keep your encryption key in a safe place so if any threat cause your system to lock up you will be able to use BitLocker recovery and get back going by entering your key.
