Tips for Choosing Your Wedding Colour Scheme

Relationships

When you are planning your wedding, one of the first things you will want to do is choose your wedding colour scheme. You may decide to opt for a seasonal palate, or your favourite shade of blue. Generally speaking it is a good idea to make sure that the colour you choose matches the ceremony setting, and the reception location.

Choosing a colour scheme for your special day is going to be one of the first things you do. The reason for this is, you will want to send out your invitations at least 6 months before the wedding date. Deciding which colour suits you best can be a challenge. Do you go with your favourite colour, or your partner’s? Will it match the wedding setting? What is your favourite flower?

These are all questions to consider when you are picking the perfect hue to grace your: stationary, table settings, and decorations. While you are still deciding, think about which colours express something special about your personalities.

A Seasonal Palate

One great way to choose a wedding day colour scheme is to opt for a seasonal palate. The following are typical sets of seasonal colours:

Spring

Think buds which are just about to open and blossoms beginning to bloom!

  • Shades of pink including pastels
  • Yellows
  • Baby blue
  • Lilac

Summer

Picture long days by the beach and picnic walks in the woods.

  • Bright and bold primary colours
  • Light green

Autumn

Imagine walking through crisp fallen leaves and the smell of smoke from bonfires.

  • Burnt orange
  • Warm browns and reds
  • Gold

Winter

Visualise crisp white fallen snow and ice.

  • Icy blues
  • Purple
  • Silver
  • Whites

If you are not keen on matching a colour from a seasonal palate to your wedding day celebrations, simply pick your favourite. However, you may feel after visiting the venue, that an alternative is more suitable.

Getting Inspiration

You can be inspired by looking around for bridesmaids’ dresses, or by beautiful flowers and jewellery. Some couples find it useful to look around a few different wedding reception venues. There is always inspiration when you find an interior matching your own personal style. For example, a stunning gold mirror may spark some ideas. When you see breathtaking interior design, simply match your colour scheme to it.

Keeping it Simple

Generally speaking, letting the style of the wedding venue decide which palate you use is a good idea. For example, ceremonies taking place in a garden are best matched to the warm tones of nature. Chapel weddings however, tend to look better when more classic tones are used.

The golden rule is to only use a maximum of three different shades. Ensure that these are tonal and relate to each other perfectly. White weddings are always going to be popular. This makes white the perfect edition to any wedding. Consider teaming up magenta, burgundy, or fuchsia with purest white and cream.

A Victorian mansion setting

Melbourne brides have a choice of many different wedding reception venues in Melbourne to choose from. Ascot House offers a magnificent Victorian Mansion setting, catering for all the finer details of your wedding day. There are beautiful grounds to wander in, hold the ceremony, or simply explore.
