Having doubts is part of being in business. I have never met anyone who never doubted anything, actually. It’s part of being human as well. But as an entrepreneur, there are certain areas that seem to trigger more doubts than others. For example: Pricing - Not charging enough; - Discounting too much; - Over delivering. Making yourself and your business visible - Not marketing enough; - No picture on your website; - Afraid to stand out and hide your light under a bushel. Choosing a niche and/or ideal client - Wanting to include everyone (and as a result don’t speak to anyone) - Offering anything anyone is willing to pay for, instead of creating your own expertise and niche based on your gifts & purpose Most doubts that show up in these areas fall in one of these three categories: 1. I’m not able to do this. 2. I’m not good enough. 3. I’m not worth it. You’re not the only one dealing with these gremlins. Most people encounter them quite regularly. You are definitely not alone here! Experiencing these doubts can cause you to feel powerless, insecure and uncomfortable. And in some cases, it can even lead to feeling totally paralyzed and overwhelmed. The good news is, that there are many things you can do to feel more confident and secure. Here are 5 tips to help you gain confidence and ditch those doubts: Tip #1: Create a look-at-me!-list. Write down everything – yes, E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G – you have ever successfully done in your life that you doubted beforehand. Every single time you took a leap, big or small. Every time you were nervous or scared, but went for it anyway. Write it all down, starting with this moment, and work your way back to childhood. Tip #2: Focus on your bigger vision & why. When you doubt yourself, you tend to only focus on the negative: the things you fear might go wrong, or seem too difficult to handle. Shift your focus to your bigger vision and mission: What’s the deeper reason to overcome your doubts and fears? Why do you do what you do, and what becomes possible if you act despite of feeling insecure? Tip #3: Relax. Breathe. Relax. Take a break. Feeling insecure costs a ton of energy. It wears you out. You get more and more tensed, and you lose the ability to come up with creative ideas that spark your enthusiasm. Take 10 deep breaths, and take a moment to observe your surroundings with all your senses. This helps you become present and also helps you: Tip #4: Connect to your intuition. Quiet your mind. Walk away from your computer and maybe even take a walk in nature. Connect to your intuition and ask it: How can I feel more secure? What can I do to empower myself right now? What do I need to move forward and not stay stuck in this doubtful place? Tip #5: Listen to Richard Branson. ‘Screw it, let’s do it.’ And yes, just do it This week’s transformational action: Where in your business do you feel doubtful right now? Notice where you don’t feel 100% confident. Ask yourself: What is it that makes me feel less powerful? What am I afraid of? What do I think I can’t do? Feel the doubts and just notice them. You don’t have to work on them or try to figure out where they came from. Focus on empowering yourself instead. Use one or more tips to boost your confidence. And if you are sure the thing you were dreading is still what you REALLY want (or need) to do: go for it!
