In today’s world of cutting edge technology, we rely on music that is created with computerized themes. But in the good old days the norm was hard core music that either soothed the ears or blasted out like crazy. Santana is one such person and group who got the party started without being sexy and knowing it. He is of Mexican origin who pioneered the genre of rock and jazz in the 1960’s and 70’s. He made his name at a Bill Graham show doing an impromptu jig and had the audiences screaming for more. At this time the blues band was formed with fellow musicians David Brown (bassist) and Gregg Rolie (keyboards). Needless to say Carlos was the front man. Their unique medleys of African beats fused with blues, salsa and Latino undertones had mass appeal, and still does. The Turning Point at Woodstock When we talk about evergreen music Santana is one of the role models in this space. In the memorable Woodstock festival, Clive Davis signed him on with Columbia Records – this was in the year 1969. Perhaps this is the reason why the year has so much significance because of the launch of this group that had plenty to offer the battalion of followers. There were differences within the band after achieving critical acclaim. Some wanted hard core rock while Carlos wanted a mix of blues, jazz and rock. They parted ways with new members joining in but eventually the band started to come apart. When there is a mix of different ideas and creative suggestions, this is perhaps why some really popular groups do not see eye to eye and call it quits. The Air Waves and a Hit Nevertheless with new band members Santana raged on bringing out numbers like Everybody’s Everything and No One to Depend On. You guessed it they were hits from the time they were aired on the radio waves. Unfortunately the over indulgence of recreational drugs brought them down affecting the performance of the artists. This was really sad for the managers and the fans that enjoyed the beats of the group. It was also believed that irregularities in the finances under management brought about bad blood. Eventually members parted ways again and the front man decided to make a change both for the band and in his personal space. Genres of Music from the 70’s to the 21st Century The early 70’s saw the new band back in the reckoning with amazing performances based on the popularity of Santana. The decade saw him getting a whole lot more spiritually inclined but there were differences with his guide who he felt was interfering with him both professionally and personally. The mid 80’s brought him back in the front with the album Freedom. In 1999 he came up with Supernatural that was an immediate success. The group was back on track. Collaborations with Cee Lo Green, Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean, Eric Clapton, Matchbox Twenty and many more brought him back in favor with the audiences. The 21st Century has seen Santana back in the driver’s seat and raring to go. He has joined hands with young artists and is here to stay.
