In recent months, there has been a lot of talk in the media about guns. Recent crimes have reignited long standing debates. Some people think that banning guns is the answer while other folks will say that the solution is more guns. However a lot of people that sway towards the middle will say that owning guns is fine as long as people are responsible and keep their guns secure and out of reach. The best way to do so is by keep these weapons locked in gun safes. Gun safes are available in many varying shapes. This is to accommodate for the wide variety of gun types that exist. Here are some of the more famous types: Handguns These date back to 12th century China, and are the earliest guns ever invented. The Chinese are credited with inventing gunpowder in the ninth century and had made early types of guns along with cannons within the next couple centuries. Although these hand cannons barely resemble what we come to think of as modern guns, they contained the three basic elements that make a gun: a metal barrel, a projectile and gunpowder. Handguns Handguns include pistols and revolvers. Their name derives from the fact that they can be held and fired in one hand. A pistol originally was only able to fire one round before reloading, while revolvers could fire off multiple rounds. However, that has changed throughout the years as modern pistols can fire off several rounds. Another advantage of handguns is that you can fit them in a small gun safe. Rifles Rifles are designed to be fired from the shoulder. The groove in the gun’s shape is what classifies it as a rifle. Rifles long barrels enable them to hit a target from long distances. Nowadays, there are also assault rifles which can fire off three to five rounds every time the trigger is pulled. Rifles would need to be kept in much larger gun safes than handguns. Shotguns Shotguns have long barrels like rifles but not their grooved shape. The other main difference for shotguns is that they fire bullets that scatter, allowing for a wide spread. This allows you to hit a target with less accuracy.
