Being in a crammed bus in nothing new to bus riders in India and most are more than comfortable with it that is why when the crashed it was unexpected to most. A bus packed with passengers crashed through a guard rail and fell off a bridge in western India early Tuesday. Various reports stated that the accident killed at least 37 people and injured 15, per authorities. On its way from the beach resort state of Goa to Mumbai the bus was on an overnight trip full of passengers. It crashed in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra, about 200 kilometers (125 miles) south of Mumbai, Mahendra Singh Pardeshi a police official present at the site told reporters. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the accident because it has not been made completely clear. It is also unknown as to how many passengers were aboard the bus, except that it has a capacity of 55 people and at least 52 were injured or killed. Amongst them was the driver who was only injured in the pre-dawn accident. A blurred video of the accident was released. It showed the bus breaking through a guard rail on the bridge then falling to the bank of the Jagbudi River below. Per the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration the recall that was issued was due in part to the fact that when the vehicle’s tires lock, they could overheat to the point that the bus tires could ignite. If the bus is used for public transportation, it could put all of the people aboard at risk of injury. There are various dangerous scenarios that people could encounter when the wheels of the bus lock. Amongst them is being stuck in the middle of train tracks. If the bus cannot move from the location it is at in time, a train can come through and smash it to bits and get derailed. Passengers could experience serious injury or death from the incident.
