Vehicle collisions can happen anywhere at unwarned times, including churches in Northern California. “It was a very scary experience,” Rev. Beverly Brewster told reporters. He alleged to have seen a car “inexplicably accelerate” toward her location at San Anselmo Church. It was Thursday evening and Brewster was about to begin a Bible study class at the Sleepy Hollow Presbyterian Church at 100 Tarry Road. According to reporters, she was facing the parking lot and could clearly see the vehicle as it sped towards her. She stated that the vehicle appeared to “take off” like an airplane then it slammed through a post, a stone wall and came to a stop at the patio. “We saw her coming,” Brewster told reporters the accident happened at around 6:15 p.m. “That’s a scary experience.” According to reports there were no injuries. There was serious property damage, however. Extensive repairs need to be done to the patio. Brewster told reporters that last year the church had raised funds last summer to replace the church roof and patio roof. As far as who will pay for the damages for the patio, she expects the auto insurance to cover it. A San Francisco car accident lawyer would do a better job at getting their church appropriate coverage, however. When the vehicle crashed through the patio, Brewer said it destroyed the support. It then took emergency crews close to four hours prior to being able to remove the wrecked car. Allegedly the driver of the vehicle that wrecked through the church patio was being driven by an elderly woman who mistook the accelerating pedal for the brake pedal, which caused her to unexpectedly accelerate. Andrew Barclay a California Highway Patrol Public Information Officer told reporters that the department was investigating the scene thoroughly to get the complete story. According to the officers whenever and individual plows a vehicle into a building, “It’s a pretty serious thing to have happen.” To reduce the chances of such situation happening again, authorities will have to diagnose and evaluate the elderly driver. They want to prevent a similar situation like it from happening again. Investigators say that the woman was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol when the crash occurred. Be aware of your surroundings, you never know when an accident is lurking. If you are in an accident, seek a car accident lawyer.
