KNIGHTS TEMPLAR

A Quest Behind a Forbidden line. Chapter One.

By Michael C Mifsud

Heaven knows how much rubbish has been written on the Order of Knights Templar. There is nothing really hidden or mysterious. The answers to all the questions that the spurious novel by Dan Brown aimed at the gullible masses were definitely not within its pages or the childish efforts of others. In fact, never in the history of publishing has such a pile of mangled half truths (plagiarized from the Baigent trio´s "The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail") captured the imagination of so many dupes. It happened with Umberto Ecco´s “In the name of the Rose” in the same sort of way - a book based on Agatha Christie´s “Ten Little Nigger Boys” with a remarkably kitch ending that turned the whole things into nothing other than a bad joke. It was followed by an amateurish and limp exercise, “Foucaults Pendulum” written no doubt, in pursuit of an impossible sequel. The readership which it appeared to be aimed at was of course incapable of getting beyond the first few chapters of either and the upper level reader searching for the same hidden mysteries, were left dancing like the characters at the end of the book and no doubt feeling rather stupid.

The secret behind these sales, was a massive publicity machinery hitherto unthought of which was to cost half of what the books returned, even with the new communication networks at the disposal of publishers The simpletons looking for the mysteries of nature and hoping to wield that power on the local neighbourhood fiends with better cars, made sure that they gave the next one a miss as they did to Brown´s follow-ups. It was hailed as the grand opening of a new era of conscientious reading, but with nothing behind the curtain, hopes and aspirations of a dying industry were to be squashed. Half truths in novel form, ideal for those writers without the time for serious research were to become a staple diet for some time to come leading a whole generation of seekers well askew as did Lobsang Rampa and Von Daniken only a couple of decades earlier. It does however make those who sweat their guts out at all hours over years on a trail getting at the truth of things, raise their pens in anger and swear at those few editorial giants who cause these things to happen. A whole industry of plagiarists in other languages who could see their way to fortunes by copying or adapting material most of the future readership would never see, cashed in, filling the stands and screens with twisted versions likely to bring in those carried in the wake of the publicity game. It was the beginning of the end for serious publishing and the total loss of the concept of the traditional, well researched, non-fiction, best seller. Paperbacks, no doubt half read, if at all, littered the beach towels close to those eager to be acknowledged to be their proud and learned owners. They could even be seen read upside down in some café or underground train, unmistakably demanding attention. It was all garbled fantasy, wrapped in acclaimed historical research. It all consequently went by the board after a month of hysteria with bewildered readers looking for the real answers in the next book perhaps… The trouble was that these readers did not know the difference between a book of serious research and a novel where lies become truths and even more so when they are suggested to be the results of valuable finds. It did not matter if it was all taken from another book which like The Holy Blood and the novelised version by Brown, were already based on the much more interesting writings of a Frenchman called Gerard de Sede nearly a century before and which provoked the furore. All of this, including the Secret of the Rose assumed that there were hidden factors manipulated by a few, the import of which would devastate humanity. The common link between the aforementioned publications was just that – the Rose and its symbolical meaning – undercover as the term sub rosa means. The Rose was utilized by secret societies and the Catholic Church itself as a symbol of secrets association with Jesus and in the 19th. century, the church itself had its own Rosicrucian circle. But what is all this mystery about ? What ties it all in with the Knights Templar –a fighting monastic Order that seemed at first glance to be a contradiction in terms ? It seems that it is all about the marriage of the world´s most revered, prophet Jesus, the assumed celibate founder of the so called Christian faith, with a rescued woman of loose morals that he no doubt took to his bed and sired children from. There is of course enough literature on the subject through the ages to sink a battleship – except that there is more to it than meets the eye and just how many descendants of this strange union survived the centuries, makes for difficult research. Why the Knights took this knowledge to their hearts is also another interesting question, but that they did there is no doubt about, to the point that Mary Magdalene became one of their objects of reverence existence and whose skull they not only appear to have kept, but is the very same one that is now on display in the crypt of the Church at St. Maximum, France – the very skull that The British Queen asked to see during her visit to Avignon. The only doubt that may exist is based on the well known fact that the skulls were switched by the Vatican and whether the Templar one is the original one or not, now begs the questions. Right next door, the cope from which the notorious fragment of cloth was obtained to get a Carbon dating in aid of the Shroud investigation, puts the whole area into a curious display case. Bu then, switching are the trademarks of evasive tactics and they happen quite often in religious and political exposures.

A not so holy descent.

That descendants of Jesus and Mary existed, there is no real doubt anymore. Very little would make sense historically without that base at least. As far as the Templars and their beliefs were concerned, it is the very first thing any real initiate of the Order finds out for himself in contact with basic material inherited by the Order. That the line comes through to today, anyone without prejudice can well work it out simply by checking on existing genealogies found in Royal archives and Church and recently published extensively. Whether they are forgeries or not matters little since the concept of smoke and fire can be applied to this conundrum with relative peace of mind. In any case, the knights left enough material to ensure that there was no mistaking the difference between the Virgin Mary, mother of God and the Magdalene, whom they addressed as “Son Majeste” which is a royal title of course and wearer of a very terrestrial crown. But just who is the first in line and just how the ramifications of the descent wheedle their way through history, is another story. The Knights Templar Hierarchy and in particular those in charge of these secrets, were it seems, torn between direct line and quality in deciding whom they should support as the Grail King. The Knights Templar, subjects of many a seemingly fantastic story, were called Grail Guardians because that is what they where, among other distinct things. They chose crowned Kings from the best of a generally rum lot of people they considered descendants of whom they called their ancient Grandmaster - Jesus himself. Some candidates for vacant thrones, despite the holy heritage, could hardly be asked to assume overall leadership as Holy Roman Emperors in alliance with the papal head of the church if they reflected, through habits and attitudes, none of the things one would associate with such a sacred figure as that of the Prophet Jesus. In fact the Grail legends made it clear that that task was well nigh impossible, but the only problem was that the whole family of descendants were technically capable through right of admission into special protection and manipulated their way into the favour of the Order (sometimes with intrinsic malice and ill disguised ambition). It is no coincidence that Philippe le Belle became the worst enemy of the Templars or that the Order was hesitant as to what to do in this respect. He was doubtlessly of the so called Rose Line (a name that the actual Church of Rome adopted as seen from cipher readings) and therefore in many ways untouchable. He was also an irascible and highly ambitious predator who terrorized the whole of the Western world with his imperative ambition and threatening behavior. He thought of himself as the only one capable of taming and carrying with him the two most revered Orders of Military Chivalry in the world In fact he first suggested getting the two major Orders - Templar and Hospitaller together to get himself what he thought would be the finest army anyone had ever seen, under his control. His sister was married to the King of England – the weak Edward II.

Not the last of the Grandmasters

The historically named but incorrectly attributed, as we shall see, last Grandmaster of the Templars, Jacque de Molay, was soon to put an end to those aspirations and his speech to that effect appears to be relatively genuine if not dictated and written later by papal scribes or sympathisers. In any case, the Grandmaster, now very old and ailing was not going to allow two distinct forces and mutually incompatible, to team up for feudal wars at any cost. Templars only fought in defence of Christian pilgrims and Holy sites, apart from their own strongholds for the purpose. All other indiscriminate fighting and in particular, nationalistic and religious ones, were alien to their priestly training and spiritual concepts. Bernard of Clairvaux made this quite obvious. Even their allegiance to the Pope was tenuous. The Order stood on its own sovereignty and one which remained even after the loss of its religious identity. Some would claim that it is still there today. The knights had every reason not to allow themselves to be taken by the nose by anyone other than their fount of honour, their sovereign Grandmaster who was a King in his own right.

To understand what went on in these early and late days of a mere two hundred years of the Order´s existence, it is crucially important to note that the rules and regulations of the new concept of religious armies have to be taken fully into account. These underpinning criteria would have never been violated by any Templar at any time, including under threat and it explains why so many of them relegated themselves to the flames. No crowned head could assume the leadership of the Order and when a Grandmaster, as happened in the 18th century, became an heir to a crown, the Templar leadership assumed beforehand would be lost. It had to be like that to maintain the international status of the Order, totally devoid of any temporal bias in the form of Nationality. This lack of national identity, was to take the Order into its most difficult periods and ultimately, end up fragmented within a mosaic of meaningless nationalities scrambling to make the Order their own special behest. The churches knew better than to fall into that trap and the only way they could avoid it was to establish their own kingdom – their own nationality and their own crown as the Roman Catholic Church and The Knights of Malta did. The Templars tried to establish a base for their international Kingdom and avoid the nationality issue – first in the Holy Land – then In Cyprus – followed by Portugal and eventually Rhodes in 1309 (The word Rhodes incidentally comes from Rose and the Knights of Rhodes followed the Templar pattern). There is also a great of indirect and logical evidence to support the theory that the Templars made the Hospitallers an offer they could not refuse based on the threat of an attempt on them once the Temple was out of the way. Another pointer is the fact that the medical Hospitallers were to become the bastion of the world aristocracy and commoners were never to enter its thresholds. Most of the Templar hierarchy came from that sector of French/Catalonian society and as has been seen today with the document found by Dr. Frale, the Church and Pope had dismissed the charges against the Templar Order. The Templars already had a substantial fleet and the Order of Rhodes, later to become that of Malta, flew the Templar colours in curious defiance of the supposedly inimical church and international monarchies. The Templars had knowledge from their documentary finds and excursions via Greenland, of land across the ocean, They needed no prompting to take to the freedom of the sea in search of the Utopia where they would be able to establish their cherished New Israel or Canaan. The rest is history and the promised land of the Templar, Phoenician role model, about which much can be said later, began to appear in various parts of the world whilst operating within similar military Orders in Spain, Portugal and even England. If this were not enough to illustrate just where the Templars disappeared into, the date for Rhodes (1309) tells us the rest. Templars were rounded up and imprisoned overnight wherever they could be found that Friday October the 13th in 1305 and Hospitallers would have been seen as a threatened, reactionary force needing policing. The move to take Rhodes by the Hospitallers would have been seen as a clear act of threat and it goes without saying that the King´s life would have then been at ransom with a consolidating force acting from beyond the wings, ready perhaps to take its empire back. Only the Templar shadow over this move, can justify an action that would put the Hospitaller Order under grave suspicion. Account has to be taken of the reality that a low profile with Vatican Templar property as booty would have been more than enough to guarantee Hospitallers a safe and respected residual military acceptance. The enemies of the Order of the Temple were to disappear within a short time after the final act of vengeance of the French King and the execution of the Grandmaster, Jacque de Molay. His sister, known as the Vixen of France would mysteriously murder her husband Edward II and the stage was set for the political and military takeover of the channels of world power by the Order of the Temple in the final stages of the creation of their three pointed Crown - the famous synergy of Grandmaster, Pope and Holy Roman Emperor.

Designs across the sea

It is becoming apparent that the Templars also had designs on the land across the Atlantic and what is now Canada. There are some very convincing finds in what was quizzically called Labrador to suggest they were there since early days. L´arbre D´or (Golden tree) appears to be much more in keeping with this emerging knowledge although it carries a glint of Frazer´s Golden Bough. The new Utopia which Canada means in native and biblical lore as Xanadu and Canaan properly belongs to the 19th. century therefore, but it might have been brought back from the past and in turn given, the occultist Frazer, a name for his song of praise. Apparently the word Labrador had been utilized in Greenland which was also a Templar stopping off point during the great sea travels of the 13th. century and taken as meaning land labourer in Spanish.

The Knights Templar profile was shaped by Bernard of Clairveux – the most powerful churchman of the Middle ages. He was also of aristocratic birth. The nobles of the ruling familes associated with the initial venture are far from clear as to who they really were, but there is every indication that they were not only of the family of Bernard (as he refers to them as such), but also of the upper Royalty of Castille and the region now known as Catalonia and Languedoc. Many Spanish surnames are of Merovingian origins (including Gometz it would seem) and a curious Hugo de Pinos buried in the area, claims to be Hugo de Payens himself. In fact, Alphonse of Castille, wanted to name them after one of his feudal estates and which gesture was politely ignored. There was a reason for that as we shall see later. The first Templars were with him physically almost immediately after they declared themselves a Military Order of Chivalry (and recently arrived, after nine years, from the East). It is worth noting that as bewildering as the independent status of the new Order was to the “Feudal Leaders” of East and West it was even more so in the context of their religious training . Little did they realize that a new church about to take over from the old, was in the process of formation and that short of papal leadership it would rival the Roman Church with its own priests and Bishops. Only a change of Papal ideological identity, as has happened with the new Jesuit Pope recently, would have allowed for a true new birth and a Templar Church which would have eliminated all traces of the existing in pursuit of the liberation of the millions shrouded in ignorance and famine that illustrated the worst period of “European History” – the Dark Ages. Perhaps because of this ultimate clasp, it was not to be at the time, but it is not difficult to see that the world today would have been of a higher evolutionary scale than the meager advances in the following five hundred years. And all these advances have occult and mysterious association that suggest that the shadows of Templar power or something similar were behind them.

The explosion of change

In the year 1127, when the Order of the Templar climbed its final hurdle to full international recognition as a religious Order of Military Chivalry, every emerging Crown in the West wanted this awesome army next to their own, but few realized that had they wanted to, the Order would have ruled the known world as it was then, within a fairly short period of time and fused a relationship with moderate Islam that would have saved the blood baths that were to follow the religious and military conflict between the followers of two of the great Prophets born of love for their people. It was not to be because the Order represented a giant leap forward in human civilization and the tawdry manipulators of the ignorant masses were to utilize this, as has always happened to things before their time, against progress. One thing was becoming abundantly clear that the new knowledge from the Orient that the Templars brought was a challenge to superstitious authority and therefore had to be brought within the secrecy and control of the Roman Church before it went too far. Additionally and perhaps with some genuine concern, issues of Prophets were seen as a danger to established lineal authority and the Roman Church knew only too well what the issue of Mohammed in the line of Fatima and her husband Ali had caused in terms of schismatic conflict and loss of human lives. Any marriage of Jesus and descendants therefore were not issues to be allowed outside the inner circles of Church authority and the word heresy took on a serious and sinister meaning. Curiously, avoiding one issue of potential conflict, was to raise another that would spill an equal amount of that human blood in the form of the Inquisition. With the emergence of this strange and powerful force wrapped in secrecy which the Templars had harnessed (probably unbeknown to themselves at the time), the world would never be the same again.
