Cover and decorate flower pots to decorate your patio or other outdoor living spaces, using paint and decorative scrapbook paper. It is a great way to give a plain, clay flower pot a designer look and create a fresh look to your decorating style. Use the covered pots for flowers or as charming centerpiece bowls for any table. Purchase new clay pots, or keep this project economical by recycling old ones and giving them a face lift. Instructions as follows: Firstly, paint the outside, inside and bottom of an 8 1/2-inch-tall clay flower pot. Use a sponge brush and an acrylic enamel paint color that coordinates with the decorative paper you have chosen. Allow the paint to dry. Apply additional coats for complete coverage. Secondly, cut the decorative paper into 16 strips, 1-by-9 inches wide. Thirdly, lay one strip of paper with the back side up on your work surface. Apply a decoupage medium to the back of the strip, using a sponge brush. Place the strip on the pot, vertically, with the glue side down. Match one short end of the strip with the top edge of the pot, and smooth it with your fingers, molding it under the lip at the bottom of the rim collar and continuing down to the bottom edge of the pot. Trim the excess even with the bottom edge of the pot. Fourthly, apply decoupage medium to the back of another strip. Starting at the top edge of the pot, space the strip an inch from the previous strip. Smooth the strip straight down the pot. Note: It is important to keep the strip vertical with no slant. The bottom of the strip will not be spaced an inch from the previous strip because of the pot's tapered sides. Trim the excess even with the bottom of the pot. Cover the remainder of the pot, in the same way, with the rest of the paper strips. Fifthly, apply decoupage medium over the entire surface of the pot, inside and out, to seal. Allow the medium to dry. Sixthly, cut a 54-inch length of 1 1/2-inch-wide ribbon. Center a thin line of craft glue around the rim collar of the flower pot. Wrap the ribbon around the collar in the glue. Tie the ends in a bow.
