What do human rights mean?
The rights that human beings have are called human rights. The main human rights include food, clothing, basic education, and housing, freedom of choice and freedom of religion. These rights may be same for all the people irrespective of where they are located. There may be no legal effect of the declaration of human rights in the US. This declaration has good intentions. Its purpose is to acknowledge some of the freedom and rights that are normally enjoyed by wealthy societies. However, some of the unfunded rights within the declaration are recognized. These are food, clothing, housing, medical care, basic education and social services. The declaration states that these rights should be granted to people who are in need and cannot get these on their own. Besides this there is no other legal importance of this declaration. The US does not have a wide area covered by the human rights law because of the various laws and rules that come under human rights. One may practice human rights or humanitarian law under the US Department of State or the United Nations. Both these entities deal with human rights issues. Most of the times, pro bono attorneys may be very busy with their case loads. As a result, it may be very difficult to find someone with enough time. However, there are a few things that a person may do to find a pro bono attorney. He/she may contact the America Civil Liberties Union or the ACLU. Though they may not be able to help the individual with the case itself, they can help him/her find a pro bono attorney in his/her area. The person can also contact the American Bar Association and get a list of pro bono attorneys in his/her state. Most of the attorneys who are listed as pro bono may handle housing cases. He/she can also try the law school clinic. These clinics have legal students who practice under professional lawyers. They can provide legal assistance to the individual at very little or no cost at all. A person was caused undue stress by his/her employer because he/she was not placed on the SR clerk’s list like the other employees. Can this person file a human rights complaint against the employer?
If the person can prove that there was workplace discrimination on the basis of race, age, sex, religion or disabilities, he/she may file a complaint against the employer. However, the right to obtain a job does not come under human rights. Human rights include a person’s right to freedom of liberty, due process of law, freedom of expression, thought, movement, choice of religion, organization and freedom from discrimination against race, age, sex and disabilities. The person may have to prove violation of one of these rights if he/she wants to file a human rights complaint. Human rights issues may be difficult to deal with.
