“I logged in to facebook, opened up my account and messaged my group members about the new upcoming event in city. Then I started using my email account and send an email to my boss. When I was emailing, my uncle from London messaged me to skype with them.” All this was done in just 5 minutes. What do you call it A necessity, an invention with time? It’s called the internet (connecting many networks together). Internet is used by almost every one today. 40% of the population of world use internet daily. And most of the time they are connected to internet without knowing they are. Internet has a deep history behind it, with some suspense drama thriller and climax. World War – Securing the archives: In the beginning internet was never thought off, because no one ever imagined anything like that could happen. But necessity is the mother of invention. And same invented the internet. In 1940’s when World War II was being fought computers had started emerging… these computers were not used in World War I. With the technology in use and all data in military sites was virtual. That is, it was available on virtual drives known as soft copy among users. The military sites were keeping these drives in safe places called bunkers. But in war, nothing can survive, so these bunkers were damaged too. When one of the bunkers damaged, People in Pentagon became suspicious, they thought how to make such a connection to that machine so that the data from that site can be transferred to server here. And thus, Modem was born. Modem is used to connect a computer to another computer. Through these modems military units were able to transfer their data from one site to another without losing much amount. Later, Pentagon again thought what if two or more places were being bombarded at the same time? How will they extract data from both the sites? And as data transfer rate was too slow so a new and better medium was needed. Hence LAN was formed. LAN is an abbreviation of Local Area Network and can transfer files at a faster rate. Not just that, LAN is also capable of connecting multi computers at the same time. That is to form a small network. This network of computers was given the name ARPANET by military of America.
