Some common types of Injuries caused by accidents: Brain and Head Injuries - One of the most common injuries suffered by drivers and passengers is a “Head Injury”, which can range from a mild concussion to a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Even when there is no physical sign of trauma (i.e. cuts or bruises), the brain is at risk of being jostled inside the skull because of the impact of a crash that results in bruising and other injuries. Neck Injuries - Another common form of injury by auto-accidents is neck injury, which can occur in more mild forms such as whiplash and neck strain. Also the more serious injuries like cervical Radiculopathy and disc injury. Back Injuries - The impact of an accident and the resulting torque on the body of drivers and passengers can cause back injuries such as a sprain, strain, fracture, disc injury, thoracic spine injury, lumbar radiculopathy and lumbar spine injury. Sometime the symptoms of the most serious back injuries can take a long time to show up after an accident, and just as often a back injury can cause long-lasting pain and discomfort. At the time of an accident, the sufferer should take to an emergency room or the 24 hour emergency center for proper diagnosis & treatment. Face Injuries - Injuries to the face can be caused by almost anything including a steering wheel, dashboard, airbag, windshield, side window, car seats or shattered glass. These injuries can be range in severity from scrapes and bruises, to laceration and fractures, even temporomandibular disorders of the jaw (TMJ) and serious dental injuries. Psychological Injuries - Injuries by accidents aren't limited to the physical factors. Especially after serious traffic accidents the drivers and passengers may suffer short or long-term life threatening psychological injuries such as emotional distress, which may develop conditions that closely resembles to post traumatic stress disorder or PTSD. Studies show that auto-accidents comprise nearly 10 percent of all emergency room visits due to injuries. The most common, nonfatal injuries suffered by drivers and passengers involved in traffic accidents are sprains, minor scrapes, cuts and open wounds. However, it is important to be examined by doctors or board certified physicians after an accident immediately, because you may be in shock and not aware that you may have more life threatening injuries.
