The Cheshire Cat, the Queen of Hearts, a woman decked out in forks and spoons. These and other whimsical scenes were all part of the Adelson in Wonderland gala held earlier this month in Phoenix. Angel MedFlight was a proud sponsor of the event, which was hosted by presented by Angels Supporting Pediatric Neuroscience. Proceeds benefited the Barrow Neurological Institute at Phoenix Children's Hospital. Dr. David Adelson leads the Barrow Institute and his wife, Barbara Jean Adelson, is founder and CEO of Angels Supporting Pediatric Neurosciences -- an organization that helps fund advanced therapies for babies and children facing neurological disorders. The annual gala celebrates the arts and the five senses -- things that we take for granted, but children with neurological disorders are often unable to enjoy. Jackie Martinez from the Angel MedFlight business development department attended the gala and says it provided a nice opportunity to engage with Dr. Adelson on a personal level. "He is a genuine, graceful man and one of the most caring individuals I have ever met." Dr. and Mrs. Adelson hosted the gala at their open-air estate. Party-goers were given a map of the grounds, which directed them to such places as the VIP White Rabbit Lounge , the Cheshire Cat and the Queen of Hearts' Garden. Models were scattered about the estate. Some were adorned in Victorian attire, others wore mini-skirts or flowing gowns decorated with flowers. Numerous bands provided the sounds of the evening. Headlining the group was former Collective Soul drummer Shane Evans. Violinist Estefania Ordaz Terrazas also performed as did jazz musician Dan Pinson and 11-year-old vocalist Oliver Richman. Aromas from a variety of chefs wafted through the Adelson's estate. Tasting their creations was even better. Beautiful creations from celebrated artists were available for purchase, ranging from oils on canvas from Kent Corbin to carved mahogany masks from Mesa's Zarco Guerrero. Mystery boxes were available for $125 to stimulate the sense of touch. The boxes contained prizes ranging from dance lessons to the grand prize: an exquisite piece of jewelry from Tiffany's. When it comes to air ambulance service, Angel MedFlight provides five-diamond service. And we often transport children who suffer from the neurological disorders Dr. Adelson treats at the Barrow Institute. It's unfortunate that Barbara Jean Adelson was unaware of our services when she herself was traveling all over the country with a child needing special care. Angel MedFlight is proud of its relationship with both the Barrow Institute and Angels Supporting Pediatric Neuroscience and hopes it can continue for years to come -- so that others in the future have the chance to celebrate the arts and the five senses as many did recently on an April night in Phoenix.
