Insufficient sleep makes you fat Professor Ken White of the University of Colorado has made a team of 16 who are young, slim and in good health condition. The experiment is to let the sleep in the bedroom of the hospital of the University of Colorado for two weeks. The first three days, the researchers ask the volunteers to sleep for nine hours every night. In the daytime, they are supplied the calories only enough to maintain their weight. In the following five days, the researchers divided the volunteers into two groups. The first group have 5 hours of sleep every night, the second nine hours. All the volunteers are free to eat. There is a lot of meat, fruits, yogurt, ice creams, potato chips and other snacks. Later, exchange the sleep time of the two groups of volunteers, the first group nine hours and the second 5 hours. Researchers mentioned in the journal of the national academy of sciences that waking up for a longer time means that the body needs to consume more energy, but the volunteers who had less sleep have more calorie intake than consumption. Experimental results show that compared with the volunteers who sleep for 9 hours, those who sleep for only 5 hours consume 5% more calories but take in 6% more. Sleep-deprived volunteers tend to eat a small breakfast but eat many snacks after dinner. Snacks are usually rich in sugar and fat with high heat.As a result, the calories they get from the snacks are higher than any of the three meals in a day. If there is continuous lack of sleep for five days, the average weight of the volunteers will gain 2 pounds (0.91 kg). After they have got enough sleep, the intake of fat and carbohydrate reduces and the weight declines accordingly. Studies show that sleep deprivation is detrimental to health. Sleep disturbance affect stress levels and the hunger hormone secretion when you are awake. Sleep deprivation significantly slows metabolism and reduces heat consumption. People who sleep for less than 5 hours tend to get fat and they are also prone to?diabetes and other weight-related diseases. 2 Day Diet Weight Loss
