Jack Reacher is a fictional character created by the best-selling author Lee Child. Jack has featured in seventeen of the books that Child has written. A basic glimpse into the character that Child has created in Reacher reveals to us that he is the perfect anti-hero that ever was. He was born on a military base in Berlin in 1960 and has then served in the United States Army Military Police Corps. If we follow Child’s novels closely then we can notice that Reacher was demoted from the rank of Major to Captain in the book, “The Enemy”, Child wrote his character being able to regain his previous rank by the time Reacher decides to leave the army in 1997. Child has made the character of Jack Reacher to be a silent and stoic personality who rarely speaks and mostly does not. In fact, there is a recurring line in almost of his novels, “Reacher said nothing.” His character tends to say nothing to questions and statements fired at him, replying in shrugs and nods which in turn leads to uncomfortableness for the other people. In this manner, Reacher becomes successful in making the other person say more than what he should. In Jack Reacher, Lee Child makes him to be a modern day Robin Hood. Jack Reacher rarely does get into fights which do not involve him and does not like to meddle in other people’s affairs. But he is rarely afforded this chance because trouble seems to have a way of finding him. While some people see him as a vigilante and others a modern day savior, there is no denying the fact that Jack Reacher does not do anything to people who he believes are innocent.
