After three weeks of competition and excitement, winners of the First City Monument Bank (FCMB) Plc sponsored Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) quiz competition on television programme entitled “AFCON Highlights” have emerged and presented with their respective prizes. The Bank flagged off the novel football entertainment programme, which ran on Silverbird Television from 9:55pm daily between January 19 and February 10, 2013, as part of its contributions to making the just-ended tournament, which was won by the Super Eagles of Nigeria, a truly exciting experience for Nigerians. The star prize was won by Miss. Hannah Olubunmi, while ten others received cash rewards. Speaking at the presentation of prizes to the winners, FCMB’s Group Head Marketing and Communications, Mr. Ikechukwu Kalu, said the programme enabled the Bank’s customers and other football lovers connect with their passion in an exciting and pleasurable way. “We are pleased that the programme achieved the desired results going by the huge viewership and participation by football fans”, he stated. While congratulating the winners, Mr. Kalu urged them to sustain their passion for the game. In her response, Miss. Olubunmi commended the bank for activating the programme. She stated that, “apart from the excitement generated watching the programme, it also helped me to improve on my knowledge of football. I feel honoured to have joined millions of Nigerians to be part of this wonderful experience and reward as a football fan”. The AFCON Highlights, which was anchored by ace football presenter/analyst, Deji Omotoyinbo, followed the progress of the 16 African teams that participated in the competition, fact files of matches and the profile of players of the participating countries. It captured for fans and others, high points of the 32 matches, including reviews, predictions and other aspects of the continental showpiece that are of interest. At the end of each segment questions relating to AFCON 2013, previous editions of the tournament and prediction of forthcoming matches were posed to viewers, who posted their answers on the FCMB Facebook (fcmbmybank) and Twitter (myfcmb) pages. Two winners emerged every day and each received a cash reward. FCMB has over the years been supporting sporting activities that have wide appeal across demographic and socio economic classes. The bank assured that it will continue to do so in a way that is consistent with its value proposition as a supportive bank.
