DFU or Device Firmware Upgrade is a special state in most of Apple devices. It enables you to control certain aspects of the phone without prior loading of the operating system. When in DFU mode, devices can be downgraded from newer to an older iOS version, or you can jailbreak (something like root on Androids) it. To put your iDevice in this state you must first shut it off and then hold the home key and power key simultaneously for 10 seconds. Nothing will appear on the screen, but iTunes (you must be connected to a computer with iTunes open) will show a message on your computer. After finishing whatever it is you were doing in DFU, most people encounter a problem. Of course, problem is only a problem if we see it that way. Most people don't know (didn't even think about it before entering DFU) how to exit DFU mode safely and be able to use the device again. But don't freak out, we have more than one solution for that. First is the manual exit: Hold down the home button and the power button, but this time for 12 seconds, after which you have to release the home button while still holding the power on button.
