Toyota has been keen to develop new hybrid cars and has started to make hybrid versions of their existing models. A 2013 Toyota Corolla hybrid’s mpg estimated to probably be in the forties—estimated, since the Corolla has no hybrid version yet. Corolla enthusiasts can predict (or dream up) what a hybrid Corolla will be like; it will most probably be similar to the hybrid versions of the Camry, Avalon, and Highlander. Why is there no hybrid Corolla yet, anyway? Well, it’s probably because Toyota has been focusing on developing and expanding the Prius hybrid product line. Still, Corolla fans are keeping their fingers crossed that Toyota will soon come up with a hybrid version of the world’s most-loved car. If and when Toyota does come up with a hybrid version for their bestseller, what do you think the car’s specifications and features will be? We could take a look at the new 2013 Toyota Auris, which will be marketed as the Corolla in Australia and other markets outside Japan. The hybrid Auris/Corolla has 1.8-liter, 100 kW gasoline engine paired with an electric motor, and a fuel economy of 3.82 liters/100km. The hybrid Auris produces only 89 grams per kilometer of carbon dioxide. The hybrid Corolla could have the same engine, or it could also have the engine that the Prius uses: a DOHC 16-valve 1.5-liter VVT-i gasoline engine (1NZ-FXE) equipped with Hybrid Synergy Drive. This remarkable piece of automotive equipment has been awarded the International Engine of the Year Award several times now. This is a good engine for the 2013 Toyota Corolla Hybrid; mpg would also be at around 53 on the highway and 46 in the city, like the Prius c. Perhaps the Corolla hybrid will have more in common with the Camry hybrid. Technically though, the Camry has always been more “powerful” than the Corolla, but who’s to say that the hybrid Corolla won’t have the same 156-hp, 2.5-liter four-cylinder Atkinson-cycle engine the Camry Hybrid has? The Corolla’s Hybrid Synergy Drive system may also generate a net horsepower of 200. The Camry hybrid runs up to 43 miles on a single gallon on the highway; in the city it’s 39mpg. The current 2013 Corolla has been equipped with a 1.8-liter, four-cylinder gasoline engine that can generate up to 132 hp. Fuel economy is good at 34 mpg on the highway and 27 in the city.Transmission options are the same as previous generations’: a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic. This will probably change in a 2013 Toyota Corolla Hybrid; mpg alone would increase, and it would undoubtedly be equipped with continuously variable transmission, or CVT. As for the other features, a hybrid Corolla would probably have standard AC, a 60/40 rear seat, power mirrors, tilt and telescoping steering wheel, power windows and locks, remote keyless entry, temperature gauge, standard airbags, and traction and stability control. There would still be a radio, MP3-compatible player, USB input jacks, and Bluetooth connectivity. GPS navigation systems can also be installed as options, as well as a full multimedia in-car entertainment system. There may be no 2013 Toyota Corolla hybrid mpg data yet, but that doesn’t stop us from dreaming about a hybrid version of the world’s most popular car—we’re pretty sure it will be awesome, and would no doubt increase Corolla sales yet again.
