Traveling internationally is one of the most exciting parts of having a destination wedding. In doing so, there are a few things that you will need to be aware of. When traveling out of the country do you know what is required of you and your guests? In order to have the perfect wedding you will want this information for yourself, as well as your wedding guests. Around the world there are more than 250 U.S. embassies and consulates. When choosing the perfect wedding destination first start by contacting the Tourism Bureau as well as the U.S. Embassy or consulate in that location. Together, these two sources will help you determine which travel requirements and recommendations you will need. Before traveling you will want all of your questions and concerns addressed. Next, you will want to have all the right information pertaining to passports and visas. As a U.S. citizen, a passport is needed to enter or depart from a foreign country and it is also used to reenter the U.S. Besides a passport, some countries require you to have a Visa. A Visa is an approval from that particular country giving you permission to visit. You will need a passport first and with that you will be able to apply for a Visa. Remember, every destination has different requirements. The U.S. requires proof of citizenship when you reenter the country. You may have chosen a country that does not ask for your passport, but U.S. Immigration will. Forms of identification to prove that you are a citizen included your passport, a certified copy of your Birth Certificate, a Certification of Citizenship, or a Certificate of Nationalism. And acceptable forms of identification are your driver’s license or a government/military ID card with your picture. Your passport is the most important document that you will need when traveling. If it is ever lost or stolen contact the local U.S. Embassy immediately. As you are packing make sure to have a photocopy of your passport and any other important information. You should also keep photocopies of your passport pages with someone at home that you can contact in an emergency. Passports can be obtained through one of the 13 U.S. Passport Agencies, or an authorized passport location – the state or federal court, or at some local post offices. If you already have a passport, make sure that it is up to date. It can take several months for a passport to come through. As a side note: if you are a bride planning to change your name after the wedding, make sure to have both your passport and airline tickets in your maiden name. It will make travel easier and you will be able to change your name with your marriage certificate when you return. There are so many things to think about when planning your destination wedding. Start by making lists of everything you will need. Take the time to prioritize them and begin marking them off as you do them. Having all of your travel information taken care of first will help ease the stress of traveling and make your wedding planning more fun.
