Trust is both powerful and vulnerable at the same time. It is powerful because it can keep a relationship in its glory; it is vulnerable because once it is broken you can never put it back. Trust is one of the most important components of a relationship whether it be a simple friendship or a romantic relationship. A certain relationship can never work out without trust in between. A relationship without trust is like a latest gadget without power. No matter how great that gadget seems to be, it proves to be useless unless supplied with electric power. A ruined trust is the most difficult to patch, and it goes by the name betrayal. Just thinking about it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. To be betrayed feels like a bird lifted you high up in the air and let you feel the wind in your face, enjoy the sceneries from up there, and when you are so high up, it suddenly drops you. The crash from that landing will leave you with broken bones, broken promises, and ultimately a broken heart. It may seem impossible to get over a betrayal, but there are ways to help you through it. Face it Denial will not help you in any way in getting over your misery. It is normal that you will be overwhelmed with a whirlwind of emotions like fear, anger, and disappointment. Embrace all these emotions and let yourself be consumed by it until it squeezes you dry. Imagine that you are in a journey and in order to get to your destination, you have to pass a hanging bridge. It looks scary, it drastically moves with the wind, and you’re scared to death, unfortunately you can’t reach your destination unless you get through the bridge. You have no choice but to cross the bridge. Talk to the person The sheer anger will hinder you from having the person who betrayed you face to face, but it’s the only way so you can have an effective and clear communication. Talking about it will clear things out; you will have a better understanding of your issue at hand and hopefully through your communication can there be acceptance. Communicate your feelings and emotions to the person who betrayed you. Let him or her know what you’ve gone through, what you felt, and how your life and your relationship became miserable because of that. Talking through your smartphone is not an option, you have to see each other face to face. Forgive This probably is the hardest part of the process since it requires you not only to forgive the person to accept him or her again to your life but also to completely forget about what happened between you in the past. Forgiveness is considered as the highest form of love one could ever give. Forgiveness can’t be accomplished over night; it will take time before you completely forgive that one person who betrayed you. Betrayal can leave a sharp pang in your heart. If not handled properly, it may also cause bitterness, and you may lose your capability to trust anyone for the rest of your life. Related Articles Plug the Hole The Relationship Not Bound to Last
