A golden rule to remember while approaching web site copywriting is: treat the readers of your message as people with very little patience. Attributing your readers with hours of unwavering patience as they read through your site is the greatest misconception ever! Another rule: Never attempt to copyright for your site yourself! You may be a wonderful writer but your website doesn't need verbosity to guarantee high traffic. What it needs is a terse but attention grabbing copy speckled with the right for better search engine rankings. The web is scattered with resources and companies who do just that. So instead of thinking of saving a few extra bucks by copywriting for your site yourself, go that extra yard and hire in professionals for a better future for your site. But even if you hire help, here are some simple tips you can always refers back to. Your potential customers will be welcomed by what is known as the 'home page'. This is where your 'copy' will be visible. Attention grabbing one-liners are the best ways to well...grab attention! They are quite effective as surfers don't need to spend too much time to read this. After welcoming the reader with a one-liner, introduce your mission/product/services by which he or she will benefit. Remember, you have to be extremely precise here, especially if your product/services are catering to a niche audience. To make the viewer turn to the next page, you simply have to make him or her feel the NEED for your product/services. Next, in short, give the details of your site. Don't be led astray by the word 'detail'. Keep it real short and simple and put the important points up first. That way, your readers will spend minimum time visiting the home page and will move on to the rest of the site. But make sure you keep your 'about the website' details limited to the first page only. The copy should be written in conversational style avoiding digressions and offensive statements to the reader. Your style should be engaging and make the reader comfortable with your product/website/services. Do not provide too many links right at the start. This will distract the reader and make him or her forget about the real purpose of your website. Keeping the reader literally 'hooked' to your site is extremely important. Remember, the reader is just a 'click' away from seeking help from another provider when bored or distracted! Avoid jargons wherever possible. They might lend a sophisticated aura to your site but jargons tend to distance readers from your services. Identify your readers or target group and speak their language. For instance, if you are targeting a business entity with your products and services, keep the tone semi-formal and hint on how your product or services will help the business to make profits. If your site is about protecting babies from common cold, keep your style casual, warm and engaging as it would be mostly read by young mothers. Avoid being vague. Talk in a straightforward manner about your product and how it would benefit your consumers. writingscentre testimonials
