Timing is important! Knowing one or two easy tricks to help book your airplane tickets at the proper time can help to save you $500 or even more per ticket on a world flight. The ideal time to buy world flight tickets is 4-5 months ahead in contrast to domestic tickets, which is mostly 2-3 months ahead of time. Airlines sometimes lower the price for world flights round the 5 month mark and the costs will slowly start going up around a quarter before. Even then you can still find deals so don't deter if you are planning last minute. From extensive experience, my partner I purchased tickets to Italy in May 3 consecutive years. The 1st year we were only able to contrive a month ahead of time. The price : $1200 each. The second year we managed to book 2 months ahead at a price of $950 each. We scheduled our last trip 5 months before and the price: $700 each. The destination, the airline, and the time of the year was always the same. The sole difference was how far ahead we managed to book. When you start planning the journey, scout tickets for no less than one or two weeks and take a look at what days and times you find the most reasonable prices. Generally the greatest deals are found on a Monday or Tues. as the airlines issue their sales on Monday morning. By Tues, Afternoon all they are all competing to have the sweetest deals but the costs will start creeping back up again after that. Often the weekend costs are the highest as airlines know this is when nearly everyone has the time to make travel reservations. Check multiple sites like Orbitz and Expedia to discover which one offers the most acceptable deals for your airlines and airport and do not forget the airline's direct site or maybe your bank's or card rewards booking system. None of these rules are drafted in stone however so it is extremely important to scout out the pricing trends for your precise airlines and airports to avoid missing the most acceptable deals. Once you have determined where and when to purchase your ticket, check back at your target time. When you see the costs have dropped, purchase! After the major discount at the 4-5 month mark for global tickets or the 2-3 month for domestic, they won't likely drop again and there may only be a limited supply. Once those tickets are gone, the costs will begin to rise again so don't wait. If you have completed your research beforehand, you will know what a fair deal for your destination is and you can purchase confidently. The other perk is that when you purchase earlier you've got a better possibility of buying a reasonable direct flight, or at a minimum one with controllable layovers. Knowing these tricks and spending 1 or 2 additional minutes scouting your flight tickets can help to save you lots of money which you can put toward something very special for your trip.
