Here's the scenario: you are sitting in front of your computer trying to think of wonderfully witty and descriptive things to promote your product. While you are waiting for the creative juices to flow, you decide that your desk needs straightening. After you've finished with the straightening, and your desk is a temple to the gods of organization, you realize that still not a drop of creativity has dripped onto your computer screen. So you move onto the pencils in your desk and begin to sharpen them. When you've finished with them you move on over to your coworkers pencils. At this point, there are no pencils left in the entire office without pinpoint sharp tip on it. Although pointy pencils are wonderful, the cursor on your screen is still blinking on the top left hand corner. Don't freak out and proceed to chew on the erasers of the newly sharpened pencils. There are people out there who can help you in your quest for wonderful copy. They are called copywriters, not to be mistaken with people who work for the patent office. Although, if you are marketing a new product you may want one of those as well. What kinds of things do they take care of? Well, let's say you have a sales letter that has to be just perfect, but you just don't have the time. Call a copywriter. Or perhaps you need 10-15 articles written for SEO purposes. Maybe you have a brochure that has fantastic pictures but no copy. Let's face it, a picture can show what something looks like, but it has a hard time articulating what it can do. That's where a copywriter can trot in on a white horse and save the day. He or she can take that picture and give you the 1000 words that the picture should be saying, but is having a hard time pronouncing. Above were just a few examples of the things that copywriters tackle from day to day. Basically if it includes words, then there is a copywriter out there that can do it for you. Some advertising firms already have them working in house, but there are freelancers out there if you don't want to go through an advertising firm. Perhaps you are already have a good grasp on graphic design and just need someone to fill in the blanks for you. Whatever the task is that you need completed, there is someone out there who can help you. If you don't have a huge budget, try and find one newer to the industry. Chances are they have the talent and the passion, they just don't have the big fancy portfolio that the seasoned veterans do. There's a good chance they'll be more likely to work with you on the budget because they need the experience. So what are you waiting for? It never hurts to ask questions. At the very worst, you'll find hiring a copywriter isn't for you.
