Dog Training 101 - What You Need To Know

Pets
Your dog will have a happier life if you put it through dog training, and you will be happier too. By being trained, you and your dog can relate to each other and where the other one is coming from. Once your dog is trained, you'll feel more comfortable leaving him inside the house alone, having visitors over with him around and taking him with you out in public. It will not always be easy to train your dog. It takes a lot of time and effort to properly train a dog.

There are different tricks you can try when you are crate training your dog. If your puppy seems reluctant about entering the crate, place a chew toy inside and close the door to the kennel. They will see the toy inside the crate and will want in the crate to get it. Once they go in the crate, praise them so that they know they did well.

Make sure you establish feeding routines and times for your dog. Training your dog to expect that when fed, once or twice a day, you will be removing the food bowl in 10-15 minutes, will lay down a feeding schedule that your dog will adhere to. Before long, your dog will learn to eat more quickly and efficiently.

Try to mistakenly avoid reinforcing any behaviors that are unwanted when doing dog training. Essentially, you must not give your dog something positive, like attention or a treat, when it behaves in a way you want to classify as negative. Don't scratch the dogs back, give it a snack or reward it in any way if it jumps, barks or does anything you don't approve of.

Use positive reinforcements when training your dog. Reward your dog with happy words, petting and an occasional very small treat when he pleases you. Never shout towards your dog, nor ever hit or physically strike him. This makes the dog think you are imbalanced. To get the best results from your dog training, you need to be firm and consistent, staying positive at all times.

Be firm with your dog when training, for its own sake. That said, love should prevail and yelling should never occur. This fosters a strong relationship between you and your dog.

Decide on a single phrase to use when housebreaking your new puppy. Each time you venture out for a bathroom trip, use this phrase to keep your dog focused on the task he came outside to accomplish.

You need to make certain your dog is having fun each day during training sessions. Playful interaction strengthens the bond between you, and will have your dog striving even harder to please you during training. Training can be pretty fun, but make sure you get plenty of non-training play in too.

Teach your puppy his name when you first start training him, as this creates a bond between the two of you. Use his name as often as possible, and help him learn to come when you call him by it. Your dog should learn these items before any others as they're the most important. Spend plenty of quality time with them, so that they know that they can trust you. If the puppy trusts you, he will be easier to train later.

Make training fun for you and your dog. Remember that dogs have short attention spans, and keep your sessions short accordingly. Keep your rewards coming and vary what you give them. Dogs get a kick of compliments and praise. When the dog enjoys their training, they will listen better.

While it may be hard, you need to always be patient with your dog. Sometimes we forget that our pets don't understand our language, much less our thoughts. He will pick up physical gestures, and this is how he will learn from you. Take a breath and relax if you feel your frustration starting to creep up.

Dogs will always be dogs, so expect his wild side to emerge if you do not give him proper care. It is important to provide dogs with the right type of food, space in which to exercise and a wide array of exciting pastimes.

When you're consistent, he can learn to hold it in. Take him outside hourly to do his business. Praise him immediately as soon as he goes to the bathroom outside. Never yell at your dog for relieving itself in the house. The yellowing won't help him understand, and he certainly doesn't know better. Bathroom breaks are required after meals or after leaving the crate.

Your dog is relying on you to signal when he is right and wrong. If you are amused when he does something wrong, your dog will see the behavior as acceptable. That is counterproductive. Always correct him when the situation calls for it.

In conclusion, it's not impossible to have a well-behaved dog. In order to achieve this, you must give your dog love and train it correctly. Use the tips above to turn your dog into a member of the family.
