OJSC MMC Norilsk Nickel communicates the results of theinternational tender posted by the company with the objective todecrease SO2 emissions, as part of the program aimed at gradualdecrease of air emissions of company's metallurgical productionfacilities located in Norilsk (Polar Division of the Company). The tender was posted in February 2011 and 27 companies applied forparticipation in the tender, of which only three companies managedto make part of the final group: 1. OJSC Giprogazootchistka (Russia) 2. Techint SpA (Italy) 3. Samsung Engineering Co Limited (Republic of Korea) The main criteria of projects appraisal were the reliability of thesuggested technological solutions as to achieve the requiredtechnical characteristics and personnel safety, turn key deadlines, warranties, prices, additional costs of MMC Norilsk Nickelon parallel projects to guarantee power supplies for the newlybuilt production. Techint SpA is an almost absolute winner. During the recent tenyears, the company has brought to life more than 140 projects in 15countries of the world. To implement Norilsk projects, Techint SpAhas invited as licensers of basic technological solutions Po?rner(Austria), Le Gaz Integral (France), MECS (Belgium, participant toDu Pont concern (USA), Enersul (Canada), as well as Russiandesigner and equipment producing companies. At present, the tender winner participates in a pre-contractdebate. Once signed the Contract, the Contractor will bring to life thefollowing latest world technologies on SO2 utilization at CopperPlant and Nadezhda Metallurgical Plant: 1. Construction and installation of waste gases deep dustseparation systems at flash furnace of NMP and Vanukov furnace ofCP 2. Construction of waste gases SO2 concentration units at flashfurnace of NMP and Vanukov furnace of CP 3. Overhaul of sulphur utilization units at NMP and CP so that allof the concentrated SO2 can be processed and elementary sulphur beproduced 4. Construction of converter waste gases cooling, dust separationand SO2 concentration systems with further transformation intoelementary sulphur at sulphur utilization units of the Copper Plantwith the objective to produce elementary sulphur Once implemented, new technologies shall provide for recovery of atleast 95% of SO2 from CP and NMP waste gases.
