The question of how to get discovered as an actor is not only a difficult one – it is a million dollar question for sure. The thing is, it’s kind of a fantasy of almost every human being. However, to be discovered by a talent agent while sitting in McDonalds and eating a burger is something that people wanting to lose 50 pounds in 1 week are dreaming about. Don’t be one of those people; having said that, it doesn’t mean that you can’t be a working actor and achieve all the success that other movie stars already have. To become a movie star, or just a working actor in any of the major cities for that matter, it takes a lot of sweat, blood and tears. Start working and make yourself available for discovery, if that is how you wish to get to the top. While you’re working on your acting craft, method acting classes or just general acting classes in London, networking to make connections, and doing all other actor’s marketing stuff, you should also find time for the “being discovered” plan. If you are in London, Los Angeles or New York City, you can do the following: go to major movie premiers, West End and Broadway plays, attend independent film screenings, film festivals, and biggest parties, and try to connect with people. The thing you have to remember is that whenever that “discovery” opportunity comes along – when Steven Spielberg accidentally bums into you and says that you look perfect for this next picture – your talent has to be there. Keep training and working on your craft, so that when the time comes, you don’t blow your once in a lifetime opportunity. You have to have passion for this job, because it will suck you out dry and take out everything you’ve got. Acting is a business, so whenever you’re not on set filming, on stage rehearsing or training in an acting class, you should treat it like a business. Market yourself in the city like you’re a product, because you are. You are your own product that you should try to sell to casting directors in London, Los Angeles or New York. Don’t be afraid to dream big. Anybody can should be a movie star; you just need to put in the work and patience that is required.
