In this age of technology, there are a number of ways and softwares being produced to share media with the world and webcasting is one such solution. It broadcasts video and audio transmission through the internet and the video or audio transmissions may be live or on-demand. This enables a single audio or visual file to be transmitted to various listeners and viewers nationwide at the same time. Webcasting can be used for a number of events. It can be for training, weddings, meetings, concerts, seminars, E-learning, advertisements, etc. There are two types of webcasts – continuous and sporadic. The continuous webcast is like a television or radio broadcast providing you with a continuous stream of information. It can also be permanent or temporary. Webcasts also involve push technology which is used to send data to a user without the user’s request. However, it depends upon the quality of the audio and video transmission as a better quality transmission attracts more people. There are a number of companies with this solution along with a reduction in cost and Epitome Solutions is an example. The transmission and the broadcasting of the media is a long process. Webcasting involves the streaming of audio or video files from a video camera on a host system and it is then encoded and sent to the Content Delivery Network [CDN]. The CDN is responsible for delivering and distributing of the encoded file over the internet. The users can view or listen to this because programs such as real time player, windows media player decode this data from the CDN and presents this as the media. As webcasting involves streaming of the media, it requires proper technologies to do so. Softwares like Adobe Flash, Microsoft Windows media, etc helps to do so. Audio codec’s like MP3, Vorbic, its compress the video stream for it to be encoded. Container bitstreams such as FLV, ASF, etc. accumulate the encoded files and delivers it to a streaming client. Webcasting helps to promote products, build strong relations with your customers and as a result strengthens your company. Before launching a webcast, advertise and spread awareness about it. Also conduct a pre-event assessment to check the network which affects the streaming quality. Make sure that your audience isn’t bored and answers to their questions and more. Make it more interactive. Also select your team carefully to have a successful webcast event.
