It is now clear that Google Glass is the new technological buzz. Google's much expected device is not even released yet (it is to be released by early 2014) that people are already creating all sorts of apps for the new piece of wearable tech. For app developers around the world, the release of Google Glass is obviously a good news since it means a new platform to develop more apps and an infinity of possibilities. Nevertheless - whether you're an app developer of not - if you're willing to create an app for Google Glass, there are a few steps you should follow as Google has already published some guidelines. 1. No ads, no fees. Google has released documentation to guide app developers - it includes information for the Mirror API, the interface developers will use to write services for Glass, a quick start guide, and other in-depth developer guides and best practices. The Californian giant has also released the terms of services of the device and surprise, surprise: not only are ads forbidden for Glass apps, so are fees. Indeed, Google has recently confirmed that app developers will not be allowed to charge or advertise for their products. Although this could still change by 2014, you may want to keep this in mind when creating your app. 2. Forbidden apps. Check Google's list of forbidden apps and contents. As we mention previously, app developers are not allowed to charge their clients for the use of their apps. They are also forbidden from selling users' data collected through their apps to third parties such as data brokers and advertising companies. We also recommend that you check the list of apps that were already built for Glass - you want to create a unique and original app. 3. Design your app for Glass. Glass is a unique platform : it is a mobile platform but most importantly, it is completely different from any platform created before. Therefore, when you create your app for Glass you want to keep in mind that you are working with a platform that has a unique design and use. You want your users to have a nice and smooth experience with your app so that they will want to use it on a regular basis. Finally, after you read all the documentation provided by Google, we also advice you to carry an in-depth market research. As it is the case for any app on any platform, you want to know if your costumers and your business would actually beneficiate from a Glass app. Do your customers need it? Does it respond to their needs? and will my business benefit from it? are some of the questions you and your mobile app developer should answer.
