The Secret State will not be much of a secret for much longer. This up and coming band is already garnering industry buzz and acclaim without even releasing their first full length album yet. Their first single "The Biggest Mistake", has gotten over 67 million views on YouTube since first being posted last September. The song's official remix features Akon and B.O.B. and has gathered another 26 million hits. Their newest single, the yet to be released "Fight or Flight", has a music video shot exclusively at the Army's National Training Center in Fort Irwin, California, and stars active duty soldiers. The "behind the scenes" video has already gotten over 10 million hits, leaving no doubt that The Secret State is making a huge impression. The band, whose members all have roots in Baltimore, first started with singer/piano player Dan Martiniano, guitarist Josh Jones, & drummer/violinist Mike Marx-Gibbons - three talented musicians with a musical background in hard rock. The first incarnation of The Secret State opened up for acts such as Hinder, Jack's Mannequin, and Shinedown. However, financial slumps and several of the members' military campaigns forced the band to the backburner for a while. Nevertheless, they soon returned to making music, adding bassist Hunter Schafer to the lineup and creating initial buzz in the Baltimore area. Guitarist Josh Jones wanted to incorporate more electronic elements to their new music, so he reached out to Danny Espinosa, a digital performer who had served with Jones as a defense contractor in Afghanistan. Espinosa's "beeps and boops", as the band like to call them, gave their songs an entirely new twist, creating the unique sound featured in their latest singles that has now become theirs. The first single off their upcoming album, "The Biggest Mistake", is a perfect example of The Secret State's unique ability to meld electronica with raw, heartfelt rock melodies. The song's soaring vocal melodies and guitar riffs merge seamlessly with electronic synths and chords to create a captivating, truly unique sound that has already made an impact with millions of viewers.
