Who says you have to buy an expensive new supercar if you want a top import car to modify? There are sedans you can buy from Japanese secondhand-car exporters that are popular among sport tuners because of their reliability, versatility, speed, and agility. These models give a winning performance in races, and some of these are known as solid rally cars. You can also dress these cars up in sporty carbon fiber apparel for that Fast and Furious look your friends will envy. Subaru WRX – The WRX said hello to the automotive market in the year 2000, and though motorsport enthusiasts were skeptical at first of the car’s looks, they quickly learned that beyond the quirky façade lay a powerful engine that can generate 265 horsepower and make the car go from zero to sixty in less that six seconds. Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart – The Ralliart shares the Evo X’s drivetrain, engine, and dual clutch transmission with paddle shifters. On track the Evo performs much better of course, but out on the street (where plenty of fast and furious races happen), the two models can ride side by side. The Ralliart can also get spare parts and accessories from the Evo stock, so that’s great. Nissan 370Z – Also known as the 370Z, this model has been described as one of the purest sports cars from Japan and one of the top import cars to modify. Its engine can generate up to 332 hp, is perfectly balanced, and is rear-wheel driven. It’s already a great car spec-wise, but modifications to lighten the body by substituting some parts for carbon-fiber pieces will make the car perform absolutely better. Honda Civic Si – Known as the model that pioneered the import tuning scene, the Civic Si’s basic package has a 2.0-liter engine that produces 197 horsepower, the most powerful Civic variant sold in the US, and one with the best 2-speed manual transmissions in the world. With those specs, it’s no wonder the Civic Si is a favorite among tuners—only the stock wheels will need to be replaced with racing ones! Toyota Levin – In drifting, the driver intentionally oversteers to cause a loss of traction in the rear wheels. The Levin is a coupe that uses rear-wheel drive, making it a favorite in drift racing. It’s no longer manufactured, so if you want a tough and high-performing car for drifting—or a top import car to modify—you’d better head on to tradecarview for one. Nissan Sentra SE-R – Sometimes the best cars to modify are those that could benefit greatly from upgrades, such as the Sentra SE-R. It’s fast and sturdy, but could use a little help in its suspension and brake system. It’s a good car to modify because you won’t be worried about making it worse! The most common modifications done to these cars are upgrades to the exhaust system, the addition of performance chips and tuners, installation of cold air intake systems, upgrades to the shocks and springs, and installation of new brake pads and rotors.
