A Tourism ranking is a list in wich countries are generally ranked are ranked by the number of international visitor arrivals, by the revenue generated by inbound tourism, and by the expendituresof outbound travelers , although the variables taking into account taken into account when ellaborating the Tourism ranking can differ from one ranking to another. The role of any country ranking is to show countries how well they did in terms of the subject of the ranking. The role of a Tourism ranking is precisely to show countries how well they did in terms of tourism. However, sometimes the variables that refer strictly to tourism are included in country brands rankings, and these variables are mixed with those that belong more to trade. For tourism ranking to be actually effective, both, tourism and trade, need to be separated so as to ellaborate one Tourism ranking and one trade ranking. The aforementioned answer that countries get about their performance on tourism, leaves more room for improvement since countries get to know where they really stand at. Bloom Consulting’s Tourism ranking incorporates a rating that enhances the utility of a ranking. Regular Tourism rankings only take into account the “hard data” or variables peviously described: number of international visitor arrivals, revenue generated by inbound tourism, and expendituresof outbound travelers. But these variables do not prive an idea of whether a contry is takin advantage of its potential to attract more tourism and therefore more revenues or not. In order to provide this information, other variables need to be considered such as offer and demand: is the specific country offering what tourists are looking for?. Therefore, this ranking gives countries an idea of their real need for improvement taking into account their potential. Finally, a Tourism ranking can be a useful tool to evaluate the tendency of a country’s performance on tourism over time. This utility is provided by tourism rankings that are ellaborated year after year, and in case countries have made an effort to imporve their performance, they will be able to know if it has proven effective by looking at the rating. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Tourism_rankings
