Employees are effective contributors to organisational performance; they are the heart of any organisation. Ensuring appropriate provisions are made for preserving employees’ health and wellbeing is mandatory. Many Industries such as Mining, Manufacturing and Construction have workers that are regularly exposed to danger and workplace pollutants. Activities such as heavy lifting, working heavy machinery and daily exposure to poisonous gases can seriously compromise workers health and wellbeing. Every organisation has a duty of care and every worker has Work Cover Insurance i.e. Work Cover. Whether it is a major or minor work injury, compensation is available to help employees through the recovery process. Compensation Claims compensates the employee for any long term pain and suffering they may endure because of a workplace injury. The injury will be medically assessed before a compensation claim can be lodged. Compensation may be paid in a lump sum and if the injury has long term ramifications the full benefits may not be awarded until the condition has stabilised. Compensation laws differ from one Australian State and Territory to another and it is mandatory that every organisation understands Work Compensation requirements i.e. Work Cover and follows the provisions set out in their specific Insurance policies. After a work place injury it is important management is informed, the employee is medically assessed and then seeks the advice of an Insurance Officer who can explain the Work Cover Types and how they apply to their situation. If the employee doesn’t understand Work Cover or the procedures and has no idea how to apply for compensation they can employ the services of an online Work Cover helpline. A helpline has the in depth knowledge of Work Cover. They will provide free forms and advice and refer employees on to a solicitor if any issues arise.
