Popularity is what marketing is all about. In order to get more hits to your site, you need to produce the kind of content that people like - and want to read. Question is, are there any topics that are just too school for cool? Or, to put it another way: are there some topics that just don't work with article marketing? The answer is no. However, if you want to get the most traffic for your site, you may want to broaden your scope on really niche subjects, in order to draw in more readers. For example, I have many readers who write in to the blog asking if educational pieces are just too dull for the internet - to which my reply is, absolutely not! People love reading and researching on all sorts of topics, so if you aren't getting the kind of traffic you're after, you'd best broaden your scope. Say you have a very niche site - we'll take the example of a website about Persian cats. Whilst writing about the hottest topic you can find (such as celebrity gossip) might seem like the best way to get the most traffic, chances are, no one will follow through on your website link. However, you know that writing about Persian cats just isn't drawing in as many people as you thought. So what's the solution? Simple: broaden your horizons without losing focus. In this case, the best idea would be to write about cats in general - pet care tips, information on different breeds, and so forth. By providing relevant, interesting content, you have just become a valuable source of information on the internet. By sticking to something close to your niche, you are also likely to avoid the scramble for popularity on more mainstream sites, meaning your competition won't be nearly as fierce. However, there are other ways to ensure your articles are widely-read. A good way is to figure out what keywords to use, and creating your topic around them. Have a quick search. What are the most common search phrases for your niche? To go back to our cat example, you might find that "kitten house training" is a popular search. At that point, you've found your next article topic! Doing keyword research like this also helps you to get an idea of the popularity you can expect. If the most popular page for those keywords is getting 10,000 page views a month, for example, then you know that you can't expect much more than that, even at peak exposure levels. If you think your website is just too niche or unpopular, challenge yourself to a bit of keyword research, and see what relevant search terms you can dig up. The internet is a vast, sprawling network of information that reflects the interests of billions of humans worldwide - chances are, someone out there is interested in what you have to say about your niche! Give it a go today, and see how much you can boost your traffic stream with the proper application of research and appropriate keywords in your articles.
