In today’s economy, more individuals are pursuing higher education beyond the Bachelor’s Degree because of the stiff competition in their fields. While some fields require a Master’s more than others, Shree Dandekar encourages it for all careers. “If you have the means and the desire, there is no reason to not earn your Master’s degree. It is a chance to be an expert in your field and have the upper-hand over many competitors, or at least make it an even playing ground,” states Shree Dandekar. Shree Dandekar has earned two Master’s in the Sciences, as well as an M.B.A., and now works for a major technological company. “Without my Master’s degrees, I assure you I would not hold the position I have today. Being in charge of so many other employees requires me to be at the highest point of expertise in my field, which I attribute to earning my Master’s degrees,” says Shree Dandekar. The highest positions go to the most qualified applicants and with a Master’s degree, one is that much closer to being the most qualified individual for any given job in their field. It may not be guaranteed but it most certainly helps, the same way internships help give a boost to one’s resume. It is expected that with a Master’s degree an individual is more professional and able to handle challenging situations better than one with only a Bachelor’s degree. While some may say this is subjective, a Master’s degree is obtained in a more concise period of time (~2 years), which does demand more from the student in a shorter interval than the traditional 4-year Bachelor’s degree. Shree Dandekar believes Bachelor’s degrees focus more on a general scope of a subject while Master’s degrees narrow the focus to a precise topic; this allows for a deeper level of understanding and proves the bearer of the Master’s degree to be a more devoted individual, willing to work hard to succeed. The more detailed workload requires sacrifice and complex thinking, which is admirable to employers looking for employees willing to do what needs to be done in order to further the company. When hiring, Shree Dandekar always looks for the capital “M” followed by the department of study next to a name to ensure skill and ability in his possible employees. Earning your Master’s degree in 2013 is advisable as more individuals acquire Bachelor’s degrees. The simplicity of it is, according to Shree Dandekar: be the best you can be.
