There have been complaints against some used car exporters from Japan; these companies have been blacklisted by tradecarview, Japan’s largest online marketplace of secondhand cars. The website would like to maintain a safe trading environment for its users, so it takes scam and fraud issues seriously. Modus Operandi of Fraudulent Exporters There are two major offenses some companies do that would make them earn a top spot in the list of exporters to avoid: one is to not ship a vehicle according to the agreement with a buyer, and another is to ship a different vehicle. The first case is the most common form of scam done by exporters. After the buyer wires his/her payment, the seller simply vanishes without a trace, and the buyer never receives his/her car. In the second case, the buyer does receive a vehicle, only it’s a different one than the one he/she ordered from the seller. A request for an exchange or refund costs extra money, and it means having to wait again. These two cases are the most common reasons of complaint against an export company. Blacklisting It is a good thing that the tradecarview website allows for customer feedback. The customers who have been wronged report their cases to the website. To prevent any similar situations from happening again, the website staff investigates all reports and evaluates the nature, severity, and the frequency of complaints against a company. If the used car exporter from Japan is found to have abused customer trust, the company is blacklisted for failing to live up to website’s strict fair trade policies. The company’s membership on the website is terminated and they are also permanently banned from the website. Instead of transferring or depositing money directly into a seller’s bank account, buyers using PayTrade will be able to authorize the website’s company, Carview Corporation, to hold the payment until such time that he or she receives the ordered car, as agreed upon. The money will only be released to the used car exporter from Japan upon the buyer’s confirmation of shipment and delivery. If the car doesn’t arrive, the buyer’s money will be refunded. In addition, through PayTrade Carview will verify the chassis/VIN number, and will only release the payment to the seller after the delivery of the correct vehicle is confirmed. The sellers will have no choice but to ship the ordered car in good condition and on time, or else they won’t receive any money. Having this service in place makes sure that the export companies are true to their word, and protects buyers from scammers. Before negotiating with a used car exporter from Japan, make sure to check the company’s reputation and customer feedback first. If it’s on tradecarview’s blacklisted companies, avoid it. There are plenty of other dealers who are trustworthy and have ethical, fair trade practices.
