Empty out the tank Many people tend to store automobiles such as their cars and lawn mowers in self storage units for various reasons. One thing most people fail to do is to empty out the fuel tank. Prior to storage, you must make it a point to drain off all the existing fuel in the fuel tank of your vehicle. Fuel is a big taboo and you can get into legal troubles if you are found having a partially filled fuel tank. Remove the gas canisters Another popular item people love to store is portable barbeque pits. Most modern BBQ pits come with propane gas canisters as an alternative method to cook the food. They can be easily removed and will need to be when you are placing them in self storage. Due to the storage condition, moisture and sunlight can cause the propane gas canisters which are heavily pressurised to explode. Dismantle the power source Some household products such as a watt generator uses fuel tanks to generate the power required. They are not visible and people tend to forget about the presence of a fuel tank and simply chuck them into self storage. Remember to remove the power source from watt generators prior to storage. Although most people know that explosive items such as fuel tanks are banned in self storage, many forget about the less obvious ones in automobiles and household appliances and create an undesired safety risk. Remember to be diligent in checking thoroughly your items meant for storage to avoid creating this unwanted risk.
