Do you often find yourself becoming very excited when you get to the end of your book? Is it because you’ve heard that there is to be a film released of the very same book? Or is it due to the fact that you’ve gone and bought the second book in the series already and you can’t wait to delve in? Of course everyone has a different opinion when it comes to books and films, and often the most successful movies are those adapted from bestselling books. But which version do you prefer, the book, or the film? Read on to find out which is better out of the following examples, the book, or the film. Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling We all know and love the Harry Potter series of books. Reported to have concocted the idea of a whole new world involving witches and wizards, Hogwarts and Lord Voldemort, all whilst on a train, J.K Rowling became an overnight success when she released the very first book in the Harry Potter collection. A few years later and many book sales of all of the books in the series, J.K Rowling was approached with the pitch of making the books come to life in film. Of course, she accepted and helped to co-direct what have now become truly worldwide sensations. But which is better? Well to tell the truth, nothing can quite capture the true magical mystery of the world of Hogwarts quite like the book, and as I’d already read all of the books in the series several times before the first film was released, I have to say that for me, the book wins hands down. Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien Made famous many years before the release of the film trilogy, The Lord of the Rings is one hefty set of reading material. Complete with various maps of Hobbiton, The Shire, and the other magical lands visited by the characters, as well as Elfish script, the books truly are a sight to behold. However, it has to be acknowledged that the likes of famous actors such as Sir Ian McKellan and Christopher Lee are the people to really bring it to life, fully embodying the famous characters of the books. But which is better? Having attempted many a time to read the book and not getting much further than the first few chapters before giving up, I have to say that for me, the films portray Tolkien’s world far more grippingly than the book. However, that may be due to the fact that very descriptive books hold no interest for me personally.
