SINGAPORE: In just under a month, the LionsXII travel to playTerengganu. And the north-eastern side's incoming coach Peter Butler believesthat fixture, on June 19 at Kuala Terengganu's Sultan IsmailNasiruddin Shah Stadium, will be one of three fixtures that willdefine the FA Cup holders' 2012 Malaysian Super League (MSL)season. Terengganu are currently sixth in the 14-strong MSL standings with27 points after 17 matches, and trail leaders the LionsXII by 14points, although they have four games in hand. But with neighbours and rivals Kelantan the favourites to defendtheir MSL title, Butler knows he has to turn Terengganu'sinconsistent season around. "Three tough matches will determine how Terengganu will end up inthe league," said the 45-year-old Englishman. "The LionsXII are playing well, they have got a balanced side andare the league leaders. That's an indication of their strength.Kelantan and T-Team are also no pushovers. "It will be a challenging three matches for Terengganu." Terengganu started the season strongly with four wins in theirfirst five outings, including a 1-0 win over the LionsXII at theJalan Besar Stadium on Jan 28. However, their form in the league has since dipped, and have notwon since a 1-0 victory over Negeri Sembilan on April 14. Their FACup semi-final loss to Sime Darby FC three weeks ago was the finalstraw for the Terengganu Football Association as they relieved headcoach Mat Zan Mat Aris of his duties. Butler, who himself was sacked as Kelantan coach in March, isexpected to officially take over as Terengganu head coach on June 1after the termination of Mat Zan's contract is finalised. Terengganu's next MSL matches are against neighbours T-Team on June15, the LionsXII on June 19 and PKNS on June 23. There is also thenorth-eastern derby to look forward to on June 26, when Terengganuentertain reigning league champions Kelantan. Butler knows he has to deliver, but insists he won't change hiscoaching philosophy. "I am looking forward to coaching my new team (Terengganu)," saidthe former SAFFC coach who also had spells with West Ham and WestBromwich Albion during his playing career. "They play attractive and attacking football, which is what I havealways wanted in my team. "We are not going to shy away from playing attacking football. That's my approach torwards any team I coach." - TODAY.
