Picture yourself on the beach – sand, sun, soft breeze, barefoot, flowers, dress… Your wedding day has arrived, but before you walk down the aisle, you must travel with your gown. This can be a stressful thought, but don’t worry. If you know what to do you and your gown will arrive at your destination in safety. When traveling on a plane, you never want to pack your gown in a suitcase and check it at the ticket counter. Once you board the plane you will want to find a safe place to store your gown. One thing you can do is lay it flat on top of the luggage in the overhead compartment. Another, and better choice, is to ask the flight attendants to hang your gown in their coat closet. If there is room, most attendants would be happy to do that. This will help to make your gown less wrinkled. When you land remember that you will need to pick up your bags and travel to your resort. The best thing to do is keep the bag upright and keep it in your sight. As soon as you arrive at your resort, you will want to take your dress out of the bag and hang it up. Depending on the fabric of your gown it may take a little more time to get it beach ready. Chiffon can be easily pressed or ironed, while silk and satin wrinkle easier. Have your gown prepared for the ceremony by a professional. Your resort will be able to help you find the perfect person to do this. Your gown will be in perfect condition with a little gentle care. When you prepare yourself for your travel day make sure to think of all the things you might need. Bring along a sewing kit, safety pins, a lint brush, and spot stain remover (make sure your gown’s fabric is able to handle a stain remover). You might want to also consider packing your shoes, jewelry, hair accessories, or anything else related to your wedding day in one of your carryon bags. If you think ahead your walk down the aisle on the beach will be the most memorable day of your life. On a small side note, I had my wedding on the beach in Aruba a few years ago. I followed a few of these ideas, but was able to travel with my gown in complete safety. My gown, shoes, veil and jewelry all fit into my carryon bag. I kept the bag with me at all times and never let it out of my sight. Both my gown and I arrived safely. The gown traveled well with minimal wrinkling and I was able to iron them out easily. When my wedding day arrived I had everything in mint condition and ready for my beach wedding.
