Recent research from Google shows that small businesses cannot afford to underestimate mobile apps, despite the steep capital costs to build one. According to Google, the average smartphone owner has installed 28 apps, and used 11 of those apps in the last 30 days. App users typically pay for about 6 of their 28 apps. According to a December 2012 study by mobile analytics company, Flurry, U.S. consumers spend an average of 127 minutes on mobile apps per day – up from 94 minutes reported in 2011. These statistics show some of the highest percentage of usage and engagement in modern technology. The data shows that while costs are high to build an app, the payoff may be well worth it. Initial costs for creating a mobile app can range from $5,000 to $35,000 but could easily pay for themselves if the app is properly marketed and pushed out to consumers. It’s clear that mobile devices and mobile search is the way of the future. Now it’s up to small businesses whether they choose to fall behind or keep up with the technology stampede.
