As a premier ocean liner during the 1930's to the wealthy and worldly, this ship was also used during World War II as a war vessel. While the ship has been retired since the late 1960's, today it serves as guest accommodations for hundreds of people. Throughout its time in operation, it is known that dozens of people have died while aboard. Two men were tragically crushed by a door in the engine room. In addition, children have died on the ship. Visitors often report sightings of strange women in period clothes around the swimming pool, the sounds of little children throughout the night. One nice perk about staying at this accommodation is that ghosts are completely embraced by the crewmembers, and tours are offered on a daily basis. Great haunted hotels are also found abroad. For example, in Australia, the Russell was once a hospital that served the inhabitants of the British penal colony. The hospital had seen some of the worst during its days, including fatal outbreaks of bubonic plague and smallpox. The venue also later became the hostel for sailors who would bring with them disease and death. In one of the rooms, guests are said to have felt a dark presence looming over them while they were in bed, peering down at them.
